morning sunshine. well, good morning to you. if you are watching tv, i'm glad you got power. i didn't have power this morning. i'm robin meade. because of the weather, here is what's going on. east coasters, you're not getting a break from the weather. several big cities are shutting down. hold on tight, we'll show you live pictures, give you i-reports from fellow viewers. see what i'm talking about? yeah.

>> remember the infamous tiger woods voice mail. she's saying what she did after she got the voice mail. plus. >> the only way i'm not going to be governor last year is at the ballot box. >> new york governor david patterson is making it clear she's running for governor next year, but there's rumors about drugs and women. a weather nightmare youds our window. a blizzard blasted the east coast and now a new snowstorm is hitting. many flights into mayor airports from d.c. up to new york are being suspended. 600 flights are cancelled at chicago o'hare and midway's airports. >> we all get freaked out, but hope we are one of the lucky ones to leave. >> it says on time.

>> totally done. my 3-year-old son says i'm tired of christmas, mommy. >> one of our i-reporters sent in pictures from his flight in columbus, ohio. he took them wait iing for the plane to take off. let me see the pictures. oh, there's not a whole lot to see. that? i don't want to take off in that. you can see crews trying to clear the snow from the runway. people waited patiently. he eventually made it to laguardia. new york is expected to get hammered. none of the city's schools are going to be open. there's a live look for you. boston announced it's having a snow day. in d.c., it's the third straight day schools and government offices will be closed. i guess it means the president's daughters don't have to ride to school in a motorcade. they are expecting another ten inches of snow.

ten inches! let me spell it out. here is the deal. i can't remember the last time there was a blizzard warning for new york, long island, maryland. they stand for jersey, philly, delaware, too. you are saying it's a big deal. >> it's a good way to say it. we had the storm over the weekend. it was a huge snow maker. it's a windy day. here is the low. it's off the coast of virginia now. it's starting to bomb out. intensify and blossom. it's going to grab the low, merge it together, deepen and turn it into a huge snow maker and wind maker. blizzard warnings for parts of west virginia, maryland, delaware, new york. winds gusting to over 40 miles per hour. lots of snow. i'll pount that out in a couple minutes. >> can you show me that, again. the red.

kerrigan's father was a homicide. he died of an alleged altercation with his son mark last month. he pleaded not guilty to assault and battery charges. the kerrigan family says the findings are inaccurate. tru tv talked to prime news about this. >> one thing that i think the government will take into consideration is it's being reported he's suffering from -- he's an african-american vet suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. he is seeing psychiatrist. he has a lengthy criminal record from 1991. things like drunken driving. violating a restraining order. when you take that picture into consideration and this, another violent altercation, it's something any prosecutor is

going to take into consideration in determining whether to file additional charges. >> nancy kerrigan won two olympic medals in the '90s. she escaped an attack before the 1994 winter games. hondas are being recalled. this is with the air bags. >> we have been talking about toyota so much, now honda expanding an earlier recall. 400,000 more cars affected. in a crash, your air bag is supposed to save you. in this case, it can burst and send metal fragments flying. they know of 12 incidents, one person died. the civic, the accord, odyssey and acura's are included. check cnn.com/robin, looking out

drama an we'll have all the highlights. all right. we have so many areas under a blizzard warning today, right next door to them, you have those under a winter storm warning. what is the difference between a blizzard warning and wint irstorm warning? >> the blizzard, winds of 35 miles per hour or greater for more than three hours. the visibility gets down to less than a quarter mile. that's what you need for a blizzard. we have that now. winter storm warnings, you're not going to see the wind as bad. just plain old snow. three to five for central p.a. ten to 20 for brake light mor. long island seven-14 inches of snow. here is new york, laguardia, jfk covered with heavy snow. check your flight to see if it's getting off. same with philadelphia.

this, just in this morning. there was an early morning earthquake that rattled northern illinois, shaking an area 50 miles west, northwest of downtown chicago. it's a 4.3 magnitude quake. it hit an hour ago. several callers have come to us

them. cribs are being recalled after the death of three babies. the thing is, they cannot be fixed. what are you supposed to do? jennifer westhoven is looking out for you. >> take them back or throw them out. don't worry about having a receipt in this situation. they are dangerous and there's no fix. they were sold a few years ago. the babies are probably out of the cribs by now. they might be in the attic. you might have been giving them to someone. they were sold at kmart and walma walmart. there's been a lot of concern for the drop side cribs. the hardware can break. the baby can get trapped. no fix. the company is out of business. there's nobody to pay for that. again, take them back, throw them out. we have all the information you need at cnn.com/robin. it's under looking out for you.

okay. this could be a little bit of good news. the fierce competition for jobs got a little bit better. t it's good news in a bad economy. in december, you may remember the government was saying for every job, there were six people looking for a job. a government report says hiring has been strongest lately in construction, leisure and hospitality. that means hotels and casinos. hotels and casinos. all right. that's where they say the jobs are. >> well, they would employ a lot of people, that's for sure. thank you. if you are traveling today, chances are you're going to run into big-time problems. look at the live pictures of new york city. bob van dillen is going to let you know the delays you can expect at a number of different airports today. the first lady kicks off a

you know, some kids in maryland are trying to make the best of an ethic snowstorm hitting the east. they built a huge castle in their yard. their mother sent the video in as an i-report. it took several hours. it's not done. wow. they are hoping the snow that

we want no one on the road unless it's an essential trip they have to make. we expect the roads will be more retch rouse in some cases than this past weekend. >> if you are anywhere from washington, d.c., up to new york, you have our sympathy today. days after a record breaking snowstorm, another one is hitting right now. we are talking up to two feet in some areas. this is a nightmare, if you are doing any kind of traveling. hundreds of flights have been cancelled. many roads are closed. that's just the start of it. a leading republican senator

wants president obama to fire the counter terrorism adviser. it's the latest fall out over the attempted attack of the under wear bomber. republicans are playing politics. they criticized the administrations handling of the suspect. ellen degeneres is sitting in the judge's chair. she talked about her qualifications as a judge and said she knows how it feels to stand on the stage and please people. those are a few of the headlines this morning on a snowy and stormy day for many viewers. welcome back, i'm robin meade. we'll have more on that. first, this just in. about an hour ago, an earthquake rattled illinois. it was centered from downtown chicago. it's a magnitude 4.3. it's not every day a 4.3 magnitude rattles the midwest.

right now, there's no immediate reports of damage. we have a viewer on the phone out of illinois. she's rafer weigel's mom. she gave rafer a message saying hey, we have an earthquake. let's get her on the phone. how are you? >> caller: i'm well. i'm happy to be in one piece. >> i'm glad you are okay. tell me how you were awakened this morning from the cat who sensed something was coming. >> caller: my pets did. they woke me up about 4:00 central time. my cat was acting strangly and my dog. around 4:00, i heard this loud rumble and it felt as though something fell on the roof. my dog jumped. the cat was quiet for a moment. she's going to start making noise, again. i apologize. >> she's upset about the

earthquake. did you feel the house rumble a bit? >> caller: i did. it felt like something fell on the roof. it was a very loud rumble, sort of like thunder and lasted three seconds. >> it seemed like an eternity for you, though. >> caller: i got up and went outside, discovered a foot and a half of snow. very windy. as bob said, very bad. >> it's unusual to feel an earthquake in illinois. it's not like it happens every year. >> caller: it is unusual. we are on a fault. i think southern illinois, you can expect an earthquake there. this is quite unusual. it was felt, according to local reports in other states, wisconsin, indiana. they said they felt it because of the flat plain of our geography. it goes farther, the feeling.

blizzard warnings. >> sentra park. the reason is because of the visibility. you saw it on the camera. all of a sudden, it fades away. winds of over 30 miles per hour. sustained for three hours. you have that south of new york. that moves in and the visibility is bad. here is the developing low. it's a bomb of a storm off the chesapeake bay. it moves up jersey, then south of new york city. winds off the ocean. a lot of snow and wind. burglar warnings in the pink shaded areas. the red shaded areas, winter storm warnings, watching for the snow to continue. chicago, to the east, getting snow off the lake. light snow in michigan. then it picks up across the middle parts of pennsylvania and virginia. some of the winds not that bad. winds up to 15 to 17 miles per hour in new york. 18 in philadelphia.

two 14-year-olds accused of stealing their mom's car for a joyride. the car crashed into a house. police tell wtvc their mom is pressing charges against her kids. a neighbor said hey, the kids are getting off easy. >> i know their mom gonna be real upset. their mom gonna have to take responsibility for it. they are under age. beat themious then let them stay in joouf anytime for awhile. >> wow. the teen's mom might have to pay the fix the house. their friends were also charged. toyota is going to need more than a team of mechanics to deal with all the recalls of millions of cars. they are going to need a lot of lawyers as well. jennifer westhoven is here. i'm not surprised. >> the only people that listened to these stories is lawyers.

more than 40 lawsuits already for the run away problem. toyota is asking they be thrown out. experts say toyota could be on the hook for more than $2 billion in legal settlements. this is a big problem. it's actually one of the reasons why car companies try to avoid recalls. you are admitting there is something wrong and could be held liable. there's mounting evidence the run away car problem is not resolved. it goes beyond gas pedals and floor mats. there are been a lot of questions about the computer system. they are confident they have solved the main problem. if you want to get away, you have to commit. you have to be able to make a plan. you have to book by tomorrow. southwest is running -- >> tomorrow? >> yeah. >> the flights don't start until

good morning. i'm wondering if you are sticking around to watch longer than normal because you can't get out because of the weather. i'm robin meade. morning, sunshine. let's start with the east coasters, you are not getting any break from freezing weather, forget the freezing weather. how about the snow? blizzard conditions shutting down several big cities this morning. as a winter nightmare gets worse. remember, the tiger woods voice mail to the alleged mistress. she is now saying what she did after she got that voice mail. police, the michael jackson autopsy report is now out and it has some surprising details

about jackson's final days. first, though, new this morning. people in northern illinois apparently woke up to a 4.3 magnitude earthquake. this just in. centered about 50 miles from downtown chicago. several callers tell us that the quake shook their homes and that includes rafer's mom who happens to live in this area. >> i felt the rumble and thought -- i thought -- it felt like something fell on the roof and it was a very loud rumble. sort of lake thunder. it lasted about three seconds. >> well, there are no reports of major damage. if you want to talk about it, why don't you go to our facebook page. post your comments about what you felt if you are in the midwest. she said places like wisconsin, also, felt it reportedly. and then we will try to get your comments on the air. maybe about weather as well. that's the other top story. a weather nightmare. just days after a record setting blizzard. blasted the east coast. live pictures now. new snowstorm is hitting and

you can. they built an igloo. filled recycling bins to make 200 snow bricks and here's the finished product. complete with tiki torches. then they sprayed water on it even to solidify it. they know what they are doing. they say four people can fit inside. >> when we spell out what the deal is here along the eastern seaboard, says bob here, cannot remember the last time there was a blizzard warning for new york, long island, maryland, blizzard warnings stand for jersey, philly, delaware, too, bob. >> yeah. i can't remember the last time this happened. 1993 was the last time we had that much of a wind field to get the blizzard warning going. blizzard warning, moderate falling snow to heavy snow. we had that. also need winds over 35 miles per hour. visibility, less than a quarter mile. here is our low. right off the shofr virginia. now moving up towards new jersey and strengthening as it does. little warm air thrown in there, too. we are seeing that snow mix in with freezing rain for areas by philadelphia, rain for the jersey shore now.

and took her name off her voice mail and waited by the phone. she says tiger then texted her on thanksgiving day like nothing was wrong and then goes on to say then the crash happened. i thought oh, this is my fault. i felt really badly. that was a very hard thing to bear. i was devastated and fell awful that it could be that big a reaction and hurt elin that much. of course, after the crash, another woman's name came out in the tabloids allegedly linked to tiger. we are going to have the video of the interview later in the show. we have reached out to woods for a response but have not heard back yet. when boggles my mind is that she said, you know, i didn't know it hurt the wife that much. she a married man! golly. thank you very much. a medical examiner has ruled the death of skater nancy kerrigan's father is a homicide. that's from a massachusetts d.a. daniel kerrigan died after an alleged altercation with his son, mark, last month. mark kerrigan pleaded not guilty to assault and battery charges. the kerrigan family says that

all right, first, though, a just-in story. people in illinois woke up to a 4.3 magnitude earthquake this morning. it was centered 50 miles from chicago. several people tell us that the quake shook their home severely. no reports of major damage. one woman described what it was like to affiliate wgn. >> i thought a truck hit my house or a pipe burst, but it just rattled so bad, and i have an extremely heavy bed in the master bedroom. it would take five people to lift it and the bed, the headboard, the metal is lodged into the wall. you may remember there was a 5.2 magnitude quake in illinois in 2008. a big story that impacts a lot of you today, the storm is hitting the east coast hard right now. in some areas they expect up to two feet. just minutes ago we got a brand new blizzard warning for d.c. a warning means here it comes.

wash wish and baltimore have already set records for their snowiest winters ever. it is one heck of a nightmare for travelers. the roads are closed. flights are cancelled and the midwest had it yesterday. some of those areas got more than a foot of snow. hundreds of flights in chicago and minneapolis were canceled. >> of course, we all get freaked out, but we hope we'll be one of the lucky ones to leave. >> right now it says on time, but once i get through the gates i don't know what will happen. >> i'm done. my son wakes up and says i'm tired of christmas, mommy. >> here's the deal says bob. i cannot remember the last time there was a blizzard warning for washington, d.c., new york, long island, maryland. you have blizzard warnings standing for jersey, philly, delaware. like a whole corridor. >> it's all because of this storm, robin. i want to bring you up to speed on the exact location and what will happen in the next couple of hours. the parent storm is right to

delaware, maryland and virginia. that's beginning to deepen and strengthen. it will bring a lot of snow and wind off the atlantic ocean and pull it into areas by pennsylvania and new york state, too. for this reason, blizzard warnings, the high winds, poor visibility and heavy snow and brand new blizzard warning for washington, d.c. and the surrounding areas. parts of west virginia and most of jersey and most of maryland as well. let me show you some live tower cam shots because the snow has been heavy since yesterday afternoon. here is d.c. this is blizzard 10 part two. i'm looking for about 10 to 20 total for d.c. through baltimore and towards philly. a little less for new york, about 8 to 16, and i'll give you the full details in a couple of minutes. near white out conditions for washington and they were upgraded to a blizzard warning. almost 1 million hondas are being recalled. the recall is about the air bags and jennifer, these things can

apparently deploy with too much force. >> yeah, thank you, robin. this is an earlier recall that's being expanded. 400,000 new hondas are being affected. in a crash, the air bag could protect you and it can burst and send metal fragments flying. honda says it nonknows of 12 incidents. one person die asked all of the cars are 2001 and 2002. they're the civic, accord and odyssey and some acura models are affected. for all of the information to find out if you should get it fixed go to cnn.robin. nancy kerrigan is not supporting the report that says her father's death was a homicide. he died after an alleged altercation with her son mark. mark kerrigan pleaded not guilty to assault and battery. we don't know if new charges are coming. remember nancy kerrigan was attacked by a rival's ex-husband and another man before the 1994

winter games. one of tiger woods' alleged mistresses is speaking out and she's revealing more details about it. >> jamie grubbs, that's a name some may remember. she's been referred to as tiger woods' mistress number two. she released the infamous voice mail to "us weekly." and after tiger asked her to remove her name off of it, tiger texted her the day of the crash like nothing was wrong. quote, then the crash happened, and i thought oh, this is my fault. i felt really bad he. that was a very hard thing to bear. i was devastated. i felt awful and that it could be that big a reaction and hurt elin that much. not grubbs allegedly linked to tiger. we'll have the video of this interview a little bit later in the show and by the way, we have reached out to woods for response for this interview and

it was all around the d.c. area that you're watching. in parts of northern virginia, parts of west virginia, delaware, new jersey, long island all under blizzard warning. let me show you what we're talking about. your area of low pressure is south of jersey, the pink-shaded areas, blizzard warnings. i put in the totals that i think will happen between washington, baltimore and philadelphia, somewhere between 10 to 20 inches of snow total and 10 to 16 for philly, and 6 to 10 for the lower hudson valley and 6 to 10 for boston through rhode island in towards connecticut and you're looking at 7 to 14 for long island itself. the reason why, mixing in with a little sleet. also the winds are beginning to pick up 15 to 20 mile per hour sustained winds, but the winds really howl later this afternoon through the overnight tonight. so we're just at the beginning stages of the storm. as it comes to the south. look at the radar picture out of new york. laguardia, jfk. new york city still reporting

seaboard and the worst of that storm has not even arrived yet. this is a live look. it's difficult to see, i guess because of what's on the lens. the schools are closed, so is the u.n. here is new york and i'm surprised at how many cars i'm still seeing on the road. i recognize that's not a whole lot of cars when you think about it and they seem to be big rigs and busses. the storm hit the midwest yesterday in iowa. 17 inches of snow. this comes just days after another storm set records in d.c. in fact, reuters reports that almost 5,000 people in that area are still without power. an i-reporter for columbus, ohio, sent photos of how the nasty weather is affecting that region. he took te photos waiting for his ple can see the crews were just trying to clear the snow from the runways. for the most part people are going to be patient and he eventually did make it into new york. some are calling it snow

apparently. a 25-year-old man checked into a sleep clinic and died the next morning. brandon harris went to the emory sleep center in atlanta for a study on sleep apnea. the coroner says that he died of sudden cardiac arrest. his uncle was on hln's "prime news" last night and our mike galanos asked him about a video that was shown here that is in distress. >> there was basically no conversation with the people from emory. at one point i made a comment saying why is it that someone's coming in? he's in distress and it is very obvious to me that from the very beginning of viewing the tape that he's in distress, why isn't someone coming in to his aid, his rescue? and the guy at that point says to me, oh, he's waving to someone. i said you wave in the opposite direction of yourself, you don't wave in this direction to greet someone which is saying to me

some kids in maryland are making the best of the epic snow storm in the east coast that they can. they built this huge snow castle in their yard and then the mom sent the video in as an ireport. it took them several hours to build and they're not done yet and they're hoping the snow that falls today will smooth out the castle surface. new details about an earthquake in northern illinois that happened this morning. it was reported as a magnitude 4.3 but now they revised that to

nightmare for travelers and hundreds of flights have been canceled and many roads are closing. seismologists are downgrading a quake that woke up many people in the chicago area this morning. the u.s. geological survey said a 3.8 magnitude quake was centered 50 miles from downtown chicago. earlier they thought it was a 4.3. now, the space shuttle "endeavour" dock would the international space station overnight and the "endeavour" is delivering an italian module and a future control room for the station's robotics. nasa says the station will be 90% complete when those two components are installed. the "endeavour" mission will include three spacewalks. good morning. how could it only be wednesday, i know, it's a tough day. especially when you're stuck at home in the snow. morning, sunshine, i'm robin meade. in new york, the worst thof storm hasn't arrived yet but they're bracing for it. the schools are closed and so is the united nations. 17 inches of snow.
